Position: Indigenous Education Assistant with a focus on student literacy support

Current Shift: Schedule to be determined. 10 months per year, while regular classes are in session

(shift includes 1/2 hour unpaid lunch)

Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working with elementary aged children in kindergarten to grade five.
  • Experience working with students to develop and grow their reading and writing skills.
  • Experience implementing, under the direction of the supervisor/team, various strategies and literacy learning opportunities for elementary students.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as the ability to relate well with elementary students.


Successful applicant will:

  • Assist students in carrying out programs as set out by consultants (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist,Speech & Language Pathologist,Psychologist, Integration Support Teacher) 
  • Liaises between the student's home/community and the school supports & team to provide wrap around supports for the student 
  • Assists in the development and delivery of rich literacy activities and opportunities for student learning and success 
  • Works alongside community and therapeutic agencies to help navigate and support recommended programming and service
