Job Description & Requirements

The Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese (the CISVA) operates 47 schools – 40 elementary and seven high schools. Our footprint extends over 250 kilometres, from Powell River in the west to Chilliwack in the east.

We are a culturally diverse faith-based family. We offer more than a place of work – we provide a call to your teaching vocation where you can work and live your faith in a supportive community. Many of our current teachers and principals are products of our school system – former graduates from the CISVA who continue to grow their spiritual and professional journey with us.

We are a vibrant school system with many school and program expansion projects in the future. We offer spiritual and professional growth and mentorship opportunities for new teachers to help them with their transition into the CISVA.

St. Joseph the Worker School
St. Joe's fosters a school environment that is faith-filled, safe, respectful and an accepting place for all of its students. We share in the mission of the Church to proclaim and build the Kingdom of God through our Franciscan charism that inspires and guides us to reach out to the community and its needs.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish
This joyful and diverse Catholic community in west Richmond, BC, was initially established as a mission to Japanese Settlers in the Steveston area in the 1930’s. In 1949, St. Joseph the Worker became a Parish. In 1963, land on Williams Road was purchased and in 1967 the present church building opened. From the very beginning until 2018 St. Joseph the Worker was staffed by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. For many of the years, the Atonement Sisters were an incisive presence. Now, the Parish and School are overseen by the Canadian Holy Spirit Province of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM) with the support of a dedicated lay staff and engaged parishioners.

St. Joseph the Worker Elementary School is pleased to offer a rare opening in its dedicating teaching team! The position is a combination of 60% Music and 40% Grade 3 classroom instruction. We are looking for an energetic and humorous educator who is passionate about music and who also enjoys working in a classroom team environment. Our school is blessed to have Friars at St. Joe’s Church who are both forward thinking and joyful in their support of the school.

This position is full-time and can potentially lead to a continuing position.

The successful candidate should have experience in both the regular and music classroom and be comfortable with instructional facilitation of children ages 5-13. Experience in band, choir, and liturgical music would be an asset.
If this sounds like the teaching position for you, or if you would like additional information regarding this opening, please contact Paul Fraser, Principal of St. Joseph the Worker, at pfraser@stjosephtheworker.ca
