High Energy, self directed and motivated Teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing is required for Surrey Schools.  This growing city, with its ever changing demographics and dynamics has a vacancy for a qualified professional to work with our students.  

Through quality teaching and learning, we commit to engaging our students in their growth as individuals and in their development of the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to contribute to a healthy, democratic and diverse society.

We are currently seeking a teacher one (1) day per week .2 FTE.


Teachers in the field will need:

  1. the ability to cope with ambiguity and rapidly changing demands;
  2. to be knowledgeable of current curriculum goals and instructional practices;
  3. to participate in on-going professional development/in-service in both regular and special education;
  4. to be committed to integration.


The Itinerant District Hearing Teacher will:     

  1. participate as members of a collaborative team and consult with school-based, District and outside agency personnel to assist with the integration into regular or special classes of learners with identified significant hearing impairments;
  2. interpret the learner's hearing loss and its implications;
  3. assess the level of support required;
  4. coordinate and prepare Individual Education Plans (IEP's);
  5. coordinate hearing assessments, hearing aid repair, PERCHI referrals, etc.;
  6. provide curriculum-based instructional support through language development activities for learners requiring direct service;
  7. participate in the yearly placement review process;
  8. identify and order materials and equipment through the Special Education Resource Centre and Boundary Health Speech and Hearing Services;
  9. monitor learner use of hearing aids, FM systems/other auditory equipment;
  10. provide the classroom teacher with information regarding  the role of teacher assistants;
  11. provide or arrange professional development/in-service surrounding hearing and hearing impairment for learners, teachers and paraprofessionals;
  12. provide consultation for parents of hearing impaired learners;
  13. model and provide information regarding inclusive practices.


  1. valid B.C. Teaching Certificate;
  2. a Diploma in Deaf Education;
  3. minimum of two years satisfactory teaching experience.



  1. satisfactory experience as a Teacher of the Hearing Impaired;
  2. satisfactory teaching experience in special  settings;
  3. a Master's Degree in Deaf Education.



The personnel in this position are accountable in the execution of their assigned duties to a Director of Instruction, Education Services.
