DISTRICT PROGRAM COUNSELLOR–ELEMENTARY ALTERNATE PROGRAMS
The District Alternate Program Counsellor will work directly with children who are enrolled in the District’s Elementary Alternate programs.
The program is intended to serve the needs of those students who exhibit severe emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties. These students display behaviours of externalizing nature (e.g. aggressive and defiant behaviours). The Elementary Alternate programs are modelled after research-based intervention frameworks of evidence-based interventions for promoting the social, emotional, and behavioural development of children. This three-tiered approach includes universal promotion for all children at Tier 1; targeted intervention for children at risk of social emotional delays at Tier 2, and individualized interventions for children with persistent challenges at Tier 3.
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for a part-time (0.50 FTE) position with the Burnaby School District effective September 2021 to June 30, 2022.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree in Counselling or Counselling Psychology
- Possess or be eligible for a BC Professional Teaching Certificate
- Successful teaching experience at the appropriate level
Knowledge and abilities and coursework, as well as familiarity with current research and practice in:
- Developmental Trauma & Trauma Informed Practices
- Emotional and Behavioural Disorders
- Attachment Theory
