About Our School

 

Chalo School is situated 9 kilometers from the town of Fort Nelson, on the Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve. We serve a student population of approximately 120 students from K4 to grade twelve. We are an independent school and follow the prescribed curriculum of the BC Ministry of Education. Traditional language and culture teaching are also important components of our students’ curriculum.

Our beautiful and well-appointed school offers ‘quality of place’ through exceptionally well-maintained physical infrastructure, small class sizes (18 pupils max.), and a team of sixteen teaching professionals and ten education assistants. Chalo Independent School Society invites applications for a combined 1.0 FTE Teacher/Counselor Position

 

This is a combined teaching and counseling position. We are looking for a trained counselor who is also enthusiastic about classroom teaching and learning. The position will be split at approximately .3 FTE counseling and .7FTE teaching. Your teaching background should include experience in grades 4-7orin high school, grades 8-12.

 

This position will provide you with numerous opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of many students, through both your counseling work, and as a member of a dedicated team of professional educators.

 

Qualifications

Successful applicants will possess the appropriate education, training and experience.

• Valid BC Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate

• Master’s Degree in Counsellingor Counselling Psychology with a completed, supervised practicum.

And,

  1. Successful classroom teaching experience.
  2. Knowledge of and willingness to use current best practices in education.
  3. Familiarity with BC curriculum.
  4. A strong team orientation.
  5. Excellent planning and organization skills.
  6. A desire to grow professionally.
  7. A clear Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector.

 

All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch.

Remuneration:

 

  1. Competitive annual salary rate matched with School District 81 salary scale;

  4. Professional Development funds; $1400.00 annually
  5. Relocation Reimbursement; $700.00 annually, for up to 3 years;
  6. Recruitment and Retention Bonus; annual payment of $2418;
  7. Special Leave: 15 medical days (5 days may be used as additional discretionary days with approval), 2 discretionary days, and 3 professional development days (pro-rated in year one).
