Position Description

A temporary part time (0.197) prep teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.  The assignment will be at Alwin Holland Elementary School.

Alwin Holland has a student population of 180 students and approximately 30% of those are Indigenous. Our school is an inner city school and our school population is characterized by considerable diversity. See www.holland.prn.bc.cafor more information.  

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Ability to teach a musical instrument
  • Education in and experience teaching music.  A music degree or music as a major or minor area of a degree program preferred
  • Training for and experience teaching primary & intermediate age students
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Desire and passion to work with our school team
  • Experience teaching in a multi-age group setting
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience in effective team teaching in collaborative teaching environments
  • Experience with and commitment to using individualized and group instruction with a variety of effective strategies,  techniques,  and resources
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all children to learn
  • Experience working with children with special needs
  • Training and experience teaching ELL, ADHD, ASD, and FASD students
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic,  social and emotional learning difficulties
  • Ability to use performance standards in all areas
  • Awareness of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment
  • Experience with teaching self-regulation strategies in the classroom
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS)
  • Excellent technology skills
  • Ability and willingness to incorporate a variety of technology into regular classroom instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills which incorporate respect for the dignity of students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the Foundation for Enhancing Student Learning and with  professional and  staff development
  • Willingness to commit to ongoing professional development

  • Three (3) references
  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 



  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,622 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $50,623 - $95,897
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
