Food Service Worker On-Call

Our school district is innovative, creative and prepares students with the critical skills and compassion that they will need in our rapidly changing and complex world.
The Surrey School Lunch Program provides nutritious meals for students to support learning. The Surrey School Meal Programs feed approximately 800 students breakfast each morning, and 2500 students lunch each day at selected schools in the Whalley and Newton areas of Surrey, BC.
Called on short notice to work at a designated school, the Food Service Worker On-Call prepares and serves Breakfast and organizes catered Lunch Program meals for students and cleans up afterwards.
Typical duties include:

Ordering, receiving and storing food and supplies required for Breakfast and Lunch, respecting students’ food allergies and other restrictions to ensure their safety.

Working successfully as a member of a team and independently, depending on the task.

Following established procedures to ensure food safety and economy.

Maintaining basic records using established forms.

Monitoring food quality, quantity, temperature and food safety.

Lifting and carrying food containers, reaching, bending and twisting to pack meals for distribution, load the dishwasher, etc.

Identifying food safety issues that might jeopardize student safety

Obtaining clarification about students’ food restrictions to ensure student safety.

Maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and staff.
Job Requirements:

Current Food Safe I certification.

At least 1 year recent related experience in a fast paced institutional food services environment.

Basic food preparation and serving skills.

Able to speak, read and write clearly in English.

Good arithmetic skills.

Able to use Microsoft Outlook (email).

Must have a valid BC Driver’s License and vehicle to move between sites.

Available for work on an as needed basis but without a guarantee of hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, from September to the end of school in June, $21.22 /hour.
