Manager, Electrical Department

District Facility Centre

Spread across one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in British Columbia, Surrey Schools is the city's biggest employer. Located on Canada's spectacular West Coast and nestled in the southwest corner of Green Timbers Urban Forest, we are just 30 minutes southeast of the city of Vancouver. Surrey Schools is the largest and fastest growing public school district in BC, and with 140 sites across 316km2, most of our staff are able to work close to home. The Surrey School District team of approximately 10,000 employees works tirelessly every day to ensure that children are getting the best start they can, providing the preparation to be our leaders of tomorrow.

Due to a recent retirement, Surrey School District 36 and the District Facility Centre is seeking a motivated individual to take on the busy role of Manager of Electrical. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities the Manager of Electrical will be responsible for planning, managing and providing oversight for the District electrical department including renovations, maintenance, installations and projects across 140 District sites (and growing!). Responsibilities include working closely with other District departments and outside agencies, maintaining regular contact with the electrical department employees, and providing electrical expertise for District initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for budgeting, work planning, reporting and overall leadership of the electrical department. The Manager of Electrical will work with the District Facility Centre management team on cross-department projects and as such the incumbent must be a strong communicator with exceptional aptitude for prioritizing projects and problem-solving. The successful applicant must have extensive experience in the electrical field with a strong technical background.

The ideal candidate for this position is a ticketed electrician with at least 4 years of field work experience combined with a minimum of 2 years supervisory/leadership experience. The candidate will have demonstrated initiative in previous work, and will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. The candidate will also have knowledge of best practices and current trends in the field of practice and extensive experience managing projects. The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading in a busy, unionized environment.

This position is based out of our beautiful District Facility Centre in the heart of Surrey, however a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required as the Manager of Electrical is regularly required to visit various sites and attend meetings off site.  This exempt position offers a salary range of $76,452 to $95,566 commensurate with education and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including pension.
