*Annual Facilities Grant term positions are effective July 1st to June 30th with the potential for annual renewal and the opportunity to apply for a continuing, full-time carpentry position. The start date for these AFG positions is as soon as possible

Due to growth, the Surrey School District’s Operations division has an exciting opportunity in our carpentry department. These temporary annually renewable positions offer a great learning opportunity for the new carpentry graduate as well as a great work-life balance for a seasoned professional! Reporting to the Manager of Structural Maintenance within the Facilities Division, the carpentry positions are responsible for a variety of projects including renovations, repairs and new installations in over 140 school district sites and offices. The successful applicants must be prepared to work effectively in a small team along side all in-house trades as well as independently to complete top quality work at various District facilities.


The Surrey School District prides itself on providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. These carpenter positions work 37.5 hours per week on afternoon shifts beginning at 3pm, Monday to Friday only. The successful applicants will have access to top-quality tools and equipment, a well-maintained fleet of vehicles and the beautiful District Facilities Centre located in the heart of Surrey.  


Applicants must have:

  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license;

  • Interprovincial trades qualification (TQ) in carpentry and/or joiner with a Red Seal endorsement;

  • Experience working as a lock smith or desire to learn is an asset;

  • Sufficient physical strength and health to perform the duties of the position are required;


These are unionized positions that offer an hourly wage rate of $33.78 plus a liberal benefit package including pension, health, vacation and sick benefits.
