Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) Primary/Intermediate Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2021 until the return of the incumbent but not beyond June 30, 2022.  The assignment will be at Margaret Ma Murray Community School.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Committed to a co-planning model within a learning "pod" of three to four divisions
  • Willingness to share space and resources in a learning "pod" of three to fur divisions within a flexible learning space environment
  • Experience in and commitment to offering a personalized learning education program as outlined in the school information listed below
  • Certification and experience at the primary/intermediate level
  • Experience teaching in a multi-aged classroom
  • Computer related skills and the ability to incorporate iBooks into regular classroom instruction
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Strong classroom management skills which maintain student dignity
  • Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents and staff
  • Training in teaching ELL students
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional and learning difficulties
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction and planning
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, and blended/structured writing process
  • Experience working with children with special needs
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

 

The Distinct Nature of Teaching and Learning at Margaret Ma Murray Community School

Margaret Ma Murray Community School was designed and built to facilitate a distinct learning environment.  This process involved visitations to schools around the country, community consultation meetings and several design meetings with a cross-section of staff from around the district.  These conversations on learning and learning spaces helped shape the architecture of the school.

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,622 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $50,623 - $95,897
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
