Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23), Kelowna BC, provides education services to 22,000 students in the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country and the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

 

We are currently hiring:

CASUAL CUSTODIANS

 

Custodians are responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintain the upkeep and safety of schools and facilities. Custodians take on a range of janitorial task on including, cleaning waxing, and ensuring adequate heat and light. Custodians have an essential role in the Operations Department; they assist school based staff in locking or unlocking rooms, moving furniture and equipment. Custodians are responsible to maintain the recycling program.

 

Custodians have knowledge regarding methods, materials and equipment required to provide high standard custodial services.  Also a working knowledge of systems to safely respond to an emergency is needed.

 

Casual Custodians will be working on-call throughout the district and will be eligible to apply on full time custodian positions available. Please note that while the majority of shifts are 3:00pm to 11:00pm, Monday to Friday successful applicants may be required occasionally to work day shifts or during weekends.

 

Applicants for Custodial positions must have completed Grade 10. Successful completion of the Building Service Worker (BSW) course or comparable course, and/or have at least two years' experience in the application of modern custodian methods and procedures required for School District buildings. The Building Services Worker (BSW) Certificate is offered at the Okanagan College and we will consider applicants who are registered or willing to take the course.

 

Along with the above successful applicants will be expected to:

Possess the physical condition and health to carry out the required duties of this position;

Requires a level of English to be able to understand oral or written instructions;

Display excellent interpersonal skills;

Work with little or no supervision and as a team player:

Complete a criminal record check.

 

The hourly wage for this position is $21.57. Casual Custodians will get 4% of bi-weekly earnings in lieu of vacation and 4.6% of straight time earnings in each pay period in lieu of statutory holidays.
