Position Description

A temporary part time (0.4) SERT .2/Grade 1 .08/Prep .12 Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  The assignment will be at Anne Roberts Young Elementary School.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Committed to a co-planning model within a learning "pod" of three to four divisions
  • Willingness to share space and resources in a learning "pod" of three to fur divisions within a flexible learning space environment

  • Experience in and commitment to offering a personalized learning education program as outlined in the school information listed below
  • Experience teaching primary students and working collaboratively in a team teaching situation
  • Masters in Special Education or working towards would be an asset
  • Ability/expertise to collaborate with classroom teachers and team-teach when warranted
  • Commitment to pursue professional development in special education
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with the Learning Services department and school administration
  • Experience/knowledge of PBIS supports
  • Experience/knowledge of AFL practices
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students  with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties
  • Working knowledge of Assessment FOR, OF and AS learning
  • Experience with teaching self-regulation strategies in the classroom
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) and promoting positive school culture and social-emotional learning
  • Working knowledge of the new curriculum to plan effectively
  • Working knowledge of Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, Phonemic Awareness Development
  • Working knowledge of current practice in teaching numeracy
  • Ability to use performance standards in reading, writing, numeracy and social responsibility
  • Committed to individualized instruction and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional, and learning difficulties
  • Ability to assist in the implementation of individualized education plans for low incidence students
  • Knowledge and understanding regarding the needs of autistic children, commitment to use of visual supports

The Distinct Nature of Teaching and Learning at Anne Roberts Young Elementary School

Anne Roberts Young Elementary School was designed and built to facilitate a distinct learning environment.  This process involved visitations to schools around the country, community consultation meetings and several design meetings with a cross-section of staff from around the district.  These conversations on learning and learning spaces helped shape the architecture of the school.

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 



  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,622 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
