IB DP Music Teacher

Mulgrave is one of Canada’s leading independent co-educational pre-K – 12 day schools, serving the North Shore of Vancouver. We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are seeking an experienced Music teacher to teach IB DP Music starting in August 2021.
The candidate will be an experienced IBDP Music teacher who will teach DP music and support our broader Upper School (Grades 6-12) Performing Arts Team. The appointee will be a passionate, inspiring and a highly skilled teacher who appreciates working in a collaborative environment. Mulgrave has well-equipped performance spaces including music rooms, band rooms, multiple practice studios, and a state of the art theatre. Our dance studio and studio theatre will be operational in the fall. Our co-curricular music groups perform regularly, and the program has toured to Banff, Sun Peaks and Whistler festivals in recent years. Performing arts are well resourced and supported enthusiastically by both students in the program, and the broader school community.
Key Responsibilities:

Create a supportive learning environment for students that incorporates technology, and encourages inquiry.

Utilize a variety of effective teaching, classroom management and assessment practices in support of student achievement
-
Support a range of co-curricular music programmes, before and after school, to provide opportunities to enrich and extend students’ performance skills and experiences
-
Maintain effective communication with parents, colleagues and students
-
Build a strong sense of community throughout the music programme, built around the inherent joy of making music as an ensemble
-
Have a thorough understanding of music technology and support the various technical needs associated with DP music requirements
-
Maintain a music room and surrounding environment that is stimulating, well organised and respected by students.

Collaborate with school administration, Head of Performing Arts, members of the PA department in the on-going development and implementation of the MYP integrated performing arts programme.

Demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills. This will include leadership for the co-curricular program including concert preparation, trip organization and special events planning.

Attend professional development workshops as required by the school

Required Qualifications:
-
Must be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada or be prepared, with our support, to go through the process of applying for the appropriate visa and permissions from the Canadian and BC authorities prior to commencement

Must meet or be willing to obtain all requirements to be certified to teach in British Columbia

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education and a Bachelor of Education or equivalent
-
Minimum of 5 years experience teaching music in the International Baccalaureate programmes
-
Strong conducting skills
-
Experience of teaching performing arts integrated courses involving music, dance and theatre
-
Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment
-
Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written
Preferred Experience and Qualities:
-
Background and experience supporting choral programmes
-
Involvement with the IB Educator Network as a Workshop Leader, Examiner, etc.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
-
Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
The salary range for this position will be $72,000 to $101,000 based on skills and experience. This position will also include health & dental benefits, tuition discount at Mulgrave and RRSP contribution.
