Effective Dates:

Commencing September 1, 2018 until June 30, 2019

Basic Qualifications:                                     The successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member

                                                                          in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch AND

                                                                          possesses one or more of the following:

Training Specialization:

  • Elementary Education with a major/minor in Special Education

Related Teaching Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful experience as a School Based Resource teacher at the elementary level

A Reasonable Expectation:

based on a teacher's skills, abilities, professional development and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff.

 School-Based Learning Assistance / Resource Teacher

A school-based resource teacher ideally has a major in Special Education.  Specific training in Learning Disabilities and English as a Second Language is desirable.

The candidate should be able to provide demonstrated experience and ability in the following:

  • ability to model instructional strategies which address a wide range of disabilities
  • ability to lead teams, liaise with outside agencies and maintain extensive records of meetings
  • ability to integrate technology for the purpose of curriculum modification and adaptation
  • collaboratively developing, implementing and assessing programs and IEPs for students who are mentally and physically challenged, gifted, learning disabled, ESL (all other exceptionalities)
  • training and experience in administering curriculum-based assessment and standardized assessments (Level A & B assessments)
  • writing summaries of assessment results
  • facilitating communication and coordinating services and resources through a school-based and working team model
  • facilitating the development of all Support Service caseloads and in collaboration with the school-based team and District personnel
  • maintaining accurate and current records of all F3 students and all students receiving support services according to Ministry and District guidelines
  • offering instructional support in or out of the classroom using resources appropriate for individual student needs and in accordance with Ministry expectations
  • developing and implementing behavioral plans for students with severe behavior
  • tracking students with special needs from year to year and ensuring all students are accurately categorized according to Ministry and District guidelines
  • following all policies, procedures and guidelines for Special Education services as defined in the Ministry of Education Manual of Special Education Services.

The school-based resource teacher provides services to students and staff in the regular classroom as well as in a different setting and must be able to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with the school-based team, Special Education assistants and others.
