Job Description & Requirements
 

Our Independent Christian School requires a part-time school counsellor. As the counsellor, and as necessary,  you will provide students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with counselling and support. You will work with our senior students to prepare them on their post-secondary decisions.  You will work in collaboration with the staff at CRCS and with the families of the students you support. You will counsel all students through a Christian worldview and must have experience with models of best counselling practices and regulations.

Certified School Counsellor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Abide in Campbell River Christian School’s policies
  • Take a Christian approach to mental health care 
  • Work with individuals and groups to improve mental health
  • Be experienced to examine issues such as bullying, anger, depression, anxiety, stress and suicide (not an inclusive list)
  • Provide services that ensures students have a safe and non-judgmental way to voice their concerns, considerations and worries 
  • Work collaboratively with families
  • Help students define, develop and execute action plans and goals
  • Follow up with students on a regular bases
  • Refer students to additional health services as necessary 
  • Be an active team member of the CRCS crisis intervention team
  • Communicate with families, CRCS Principal and teachers about behavioural and/or academic considerations

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Christian counsellor/teacher
  • Have high Christian morals and ethics including confidentiality, integrity and professionalism
  • A belief that all students are able to make changes through the grace and teachings of Jesus Christ
  • Ability to work within a wide range of student personalities, giftings and backgrounds
  • Experience and model best counselling practices and be current in counselling regulations
  • High emotional intelligence abilities and excellent observing and listening skills
  • Have a current BC teaching certificate, counselling credentials and/or a degree in social work
  • Previous experience in counselling students
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
