School District 72 (Campbell River) is seeking applications for the excluded position of Payroll and Benefits Supervisor, to provide leadership in support of all School District 72 payroll and benefits functions.  The start date for this position is expected to be July 2017.



Campbell River is a scenic, oceanfront community framed by extensive waterfront, west coast forests and snow-capped mountains. As the largest employer in the Campbell River area, the school district is known for its commitment to professional development and sense of ‘family’ amongst colleagues.



Under the direction of the Secretary Treasurer and Assistant Secretary Treasurer, the Supervisor’s responsibilities will include the following:

  • Ensuring that monthly and year end regulatory filings are completed on a timely basis (statutory deductions, T4s, T4As, WCB, etc.);

  • Supervising the evaluation, planning and administration of the employee benefits programs, including retirement and leave plans;

  • Overseeing the administration of pension plans;

  • Preparation of administration payroll and all related functions;

  • Supervising support staff (Payroll Clerks) and teaching (Accountant) payroll staff and payroll related projects;



The successful applicant will have:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience including completion of the Canadian Payroll Management Certification Program (CPM or CPC);

  • Attainment of a recognized accounting designation would be a desirable asset;

  • Successful supervisory experience and training, preferably in a unionized environment;

  • Knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, payroll reporting requirements and the administration of pension and benefit plans;

  • Superior analytical, organizational and leadership skills;

  • Advanced communication skills both written and oral;

  • Excellent planning, coordinating, organizing and time management skills with the ability to delegate; and

  • Respectful of confidentiality in staffing matters.
