Description and Qualifications:

This position provides direct assistance to Indigenous students and their teachers at Individual Learning Centre,  liaises with the First Nations community on behalf of the school, and provides a positive role model for Indigenous students.

Applicants must have demonstrated ability to provide instructional support in a secondary school setting with a willingness to be involved in school/department activities.

Applicants must have demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills with students, staff, and the community.

Focus areas include:

  • Bridging family needs with student course completion
  • Building strong interpersonal relationships with all Indigenous students and their families
  • Connecting with the W̱SÁNEĆ communities to set up supports for students that may require transportation, family support, financial support, attendance, engagement, etc.

Minimum requirements: secondary school graduation, direct or related experience with a preference given to applicants with post secondary training and experience related to supporting school-aged children/youth.

This position requires a class 5 Driver’s License.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A CUPE POSITION.

In accordance with Human Rights Commission Exemption Section 19 (2), preference will be given to applicants with First Nations ancestry who have knowledge of local history and culture.
