Principal  Position        #KCS2020-12-16

Kitasoo Community School is seeking a progressive, motivating, team-oriented Principal who has demonstrated excellent skills in visioning and implementing a collegial, committed staff – a true Professional Learning Community focused on student success. We are looking for an experienced leader with a minimum of 10 years teaching and administration experience, certification with BCTF, a Masters degree in Education Administration, Curriculum or another relevant field, and experience in First Nations communities. The school, with a staff of 16 and about 50 students from K-12, is located in Klemtu, B.C., a First Nations community in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest on the Central Coast. Commitment to fostering collaborative and positive relationships between school and community is vital.

Focus continues to be on raising literacy and numeracy levels and offering high quality Tier 1 instruction. Experience in best practice literacy and numeracy strategies, implementing the new BC curriculum and Special Education procedures and creating IEPs is required.  The Principal will work with the School Coordinator and the KEA Board and is responsible for staffing, hiring, supervision, and budgeting.

The school offers small class sizes, a dedicated staff, and a well-equipped school. The community is committed to high educational expectations for all the students in preparation for Grade 12 graduation and post-secondary education. The school SEAS program and integrated language and culture program offers students a well-rounded program instilling pride and confidence in the local culture.

Klemtu is a remote community accessible by BC ferries and float plane. There are many outdoor recreational opportunities in the area for hiking, kayaking, fishing and local cultural activities. The community has two stores, an RCMP station and a Health Centre. The KEA offers a comprehensive salary and benefit package on par with SD 52 in Prince Rupert, and subsidized travel and teacher accommodation with internet.

This position will be open until filled. We thank all those that apply, however, only those meeting the criteria will be short-listed. A full job description is available upon request.
