School District No. 83 is current seeking:

.8 FTE Woodwork & Remedy Teacher

Salmon Arm Secondary – Jackson Campus

This is a temporary appointment for the second semester effective January 29, 2018 to June 30, 2018 and is to be worked and paid at .8TE.

The assignment consists of two blocks of teaching Woodwork 9/10 and providing remedy.

As a remedy teacher, you will be providing support to teachers who are entitled to remedies due to their class size and composition.  This may take the form of:

    • teaching a classroom when the affected teacher is taking additional prep time;

    • working as a non-enrolling teacher with the affected teacher’s class;

    • co-teaching with the affected teacher.

Remedy teachers will also be expected to prepare for the classes that they are providing remedy for.


  • Bachelor of Arts or Education (Secondary emphasis preferred);
  • valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch.


Teachers applying must possess the following attributes:

  • academic credentials and/or experience in technology education, specifically Woodwork;

  • a working knowledge of the current curriculum at the Secondary level;

  • demonstrated successful experience teaching at the Secondary level in general and Woodwork;

  • experience teaching a classroom of diverse learners and ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs;

  • experience working collaboratively with teachers in their own classrooms and ability to team teach;

  • excellent classroom management skills;

  • committed to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning;

  • evidence of ability to motivate secondary students;

  • excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment with other staff members;

  • commitment to involving parents in the learning of their children.
