Located in BC’s interior region, SD57 includes the city of Prince George (pop. 75,000) and extends north to Mackenzie, south to Hixon, and east to McBride and Valemount. The region enjoys stunning geography, affordable housing, outstanding recreational facilities, a vibrant arts scene, complete range of urban services, including a regional teaching hospital and an international airport. Prince George is a multi-cultural city and a post-secondary educational destination with the University of Northern BC and the College of New Caledonia located within the city. It has a student population of approximately 13 306 enrolled in 31 elementary schools, 8 secondary schools, and a Centre for Learning Alternatives. It employs 2 000 staff, including almost 1 000 teachers. The district offers regular English programming, Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as French Immersion, Montessori and Traditional choice school options.
The Position: Our district is seeking a BC-certified teacher (or be in the process of obtaining certification from the TRB) for a 1.0 position in Automotive Technology (Must have the ability to teach classes within the applied design, skills & technology framework).
- Bachelor of Education (Industrial Technology major or completion of technical training or vocational instructor certificate) preferred;
- Valid BC Teaching certificate and current membership in the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (or be in the process of applying);
- Red Seal or Certificate of Qualification issued or recognized by the Industry Training Authority preferred, with the understanding that the applicant is working on becoming eligible for TRB certification.
Technology Education involves students in the design and fabrication of objects using a variety of materials, methods, technologies, and tools in order to develop their ability to shape and change the physical world to meet human needs. In addition to your professional teaching certificate and relevant workshop experience in technology education, you have experience teaching a classroom of diverse learners and the ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs. Your experience should also include the ability to safety supervise students (up to a maximum of 24) in a comprehensively-equipped industrial shop setting associated with auto service technology. You have excellent classroom management and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work in a collaborative environment with others staff members.
