Superintendent of Schools/CEO

Applications are invited for the position of Superintendent of Schools/CEO for School District No. 72 (Campbell River).  Duties to commence on October 15, 2018 or as mutually agreed.

The Position

Reporting to the Board of Education the Superintendent is responsible for carrying out the duties as specified in the School Act, School Act Regulations and Board Policy as amended from time to time. 


The Candidate

The Board is seeking an educational leader who works respectfully and effectively with the Board of Education to enhance measureable outcomes for all students. The successful candidate will bring a collaborative, transparent approach to timely decision-making, balanced with the courage to make necessary yet difficult decisions.  In addition, the successful candidate will be highly visible in schools, provide effective fiscal oversight, model exemplary communication skills and demonstrate care and compassion towards students and staff. 


The candidate must have successful broad-based K-12 educational leadership experience, at minimum hold a Master’s degree, and qualify for BC teaching certification.


The District

School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River.  The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes and Quadra. The district serves over 5,400 students in 18 school, four of which are remote.  Twenty-four percent of our students are Indigenous learners.  Campbell River is the fourth largest city on Vancouver Island and has approximately 32,000 residents. 


The district offers a wide variety of programs including French Immersion, distance learning, high performance sports programs/academies and an international program. 


The Area

The area is renowned for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities such as skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, golf, and endless opportunities to experience nature. Our moderate climate allows residents to participate in numerous outdoor activities on a year round basis.  An international airport is located 47 minutes from Campbell River.  Services include a brand new regional hospital, numerous early childhood and family programs, Campbell River North Island College Campus, private post-secondary colleges and a vibrant arts and culture community.
