Applications are invited for the position of District School Psychologist in Prince Rupert. This is a full time (1.0 f.t.e.) continuing position and will be effective as soon as possible.
Must be willing to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in our School Plans, Aboriginal Partnership Agreement and Framework for Enhancing Student Learning. The District’s major goals are inclusion, literacy and numeracy, with a focus on embedding Aboriginal Content. Applicants must be eligible for B.C. Teacher Certification and be willing to work collaboratively.
Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in school/educational psychology or a related field with a focus on school psychology;
- Professional teaching certificate (B.C. Teaching Certificate);
- Qualified to administer and interpret up to and including Level C educational, psychological and behavioural tests;
- Training in psychometric theory and principles;
- Current knowledge of British Columbia Ministry of Education’s New Curriculum, Special Education policies and procedures;
- Current knowledge of inclusive practices (Response to Intervention, Universal Design for Learning, and educating diverse learners);
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability in forming excellent working relationships with a variety of colleagues;
- Demonstrated ability in consulting with teachers, administrators, parents, students and community agencies regarding the nature of students’ strengths and needs, their educational implications and ways to enhance learning and interpersonal relations;
- Demonstrated ability in collaborating with school-based and/or district personnel to gather classroom-based data, design or implement instructional strategies and design and implement behaviour management interventions;
- Demonstrated leadership and ability in working with School Based Teams, multi-disciplinary teams and community care teams;
- Demonstrated ability to assist in the development of IEPs for referred students;
- Experience and demonstrated skill in designing and presenting in-service in the area of special education and, specifically in the area of assessment.
- Eligible for membership in B.C.A.S.P.
