Collingwood School is a coeducational day school located on two campuses in West Vancouver, BC. We are seeking an experienced Special Education (KEY) Teacher to join our Morven Campus (Grades 8-12). The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, collaborative, inspirational, tech-savvy educator with experience working with students who have diagnosed learning differences, and who will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the many facets of school life, which will include coaching and extra-curricular responsibilities. This is a Permanent Full Time position starting on  August 27, 2021.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct service to students and working in partnership with the teaching faculty
  • Deliver the curriculum as per the BC Ministry requirements
  • Motivated to learn and improve teaching practice
  • Collaborate with other members of faculty within the department to create innovative lessons and units
  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate test and assessment data
  • Provide 1:1 and small group learning support
  • Ensure that Individual Education Plans (IEP) and school-based support plans are detailed and current
  • Maintain accurate records and ensuring that students receive the required accommodations and support
  • Continuously assessing the effectiveness of learning support interventions and managing change as needed
  • Using a range of student data to inform learning support practices and evaluation procedures
  • Partner with external providers (e.g. educational psychologists) to coordinate support
  • Driven to take risks in the development of new pedagogical and assessment practices
  • Working with students outside of classroom hours for tutorial support

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education with training in teaching students with learning challenges
  • Master’s Degree or specific course work in Special Education
  • Knowledge of differentiated learning approaches
  • Experience in developing, writing and implementing IEP goals
  • Experience teaching Grade 8 -12 level
  • Motivated to learn and improve teaching practice
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Technology savvy. The ability to teach students how to use assistive technologies to support their independence and learning
  • Certified (or in the process of becoming certified) by the British Columbia Ministry of Education
  • Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
