Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School

The Position

 Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School is looking for a secondary Math teacher who can teach Grade 10, 11, and 12 Math. Ability to teach a Science course would be a definite asset. They must be able to qualify for a British Columbia Professional Teaching Certificate, or a BC Independent School Teaching Certificate, or a Subject Restricted Teaching Certificate (See below for more information). 

Our School

SIPFLS operates a Grade 10 to 12 BC Program (a school within a school) for 200 Chinese and international students who plan to attend post secondary institutions in Canada or another western country after graduation. Instruction in the program is in English and is provided by BC certified teachers who follow the BC Curriculum leading to the Dogwood Graduation Diploma. The BC Program is fully certified and is subject to annual inspections by the BC Ministry of Education. The current campus was established six years ago and facilities on the campus have been developed each year. The BC program moved into a new building in September of 2014. Classrooms offer internet connection, white boards, wide screen televisions and individually controlled heating and air conditioning systems. Suzhou is a pleasant city to live in with Western restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, movie theatres, and easy access to Shanghai (30 minutes by high speed train) and a sub-tropical temperate climate year round. Many teachers enjoy exploring the surrounding countries in South East Asia on their holidays.

Note - Applicants must be eligible for a BC Teaching Certificate.

Applicants must be eligible for a British Columbia Professional/InterimTeaching Certificate, a BC Independent School Teaching Certificate or a BC Subject Restricted Teaching Certificate. The Subject Restricted Teaching Certificate restricts the holder to teaching subjects within the school that are directly related to his/her post-secondary subject concentrations. This requires

  • English Language Level proficiency where your first language is not English (for more information please refer to this website: http://www.bcteacherregulation.ca/Teacher/IndependentLangProficiency.aspx

  • A degree and 120 or more semester hour credits of relevant post-secondary education from a recognized institution.

  • 18 credits of upper level (third and fourth year) academic course work or 30 credits of any level academic course work in at least one of the teachable areas identified with the applicable subject category below (certificates can be issued to an applicant under multiple subject categories if the applicant demonstrates these academic qualifications.

  • General Science should include courses from two or more of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Geography, Geology/Earth Science, Ocean Science, Environmental Science, and Astronomy.

Fitness to Teach - You must be a person of a good and moral character to qualify for a certificate. The BC TRB will require:

  • confidential character reference forms 

  • criminal record check results 

  • in some cases, the results of a fingerprint search
