Instructor, Education Assistant Program

Surrey Community College is a post-secondary institution associated with the Surrey School District, and is seeking a qualified instructor for the Education Assistant program. There are two positions to be filled. Both are full time (25 hours of instruction per week). One contract position is for daytime instruction beginning September 2021 to end of June 2022 with the possibility of continuing in September 2022 depending on registration. The second contract position is for evening instruction September 2021 to end of June 2022 with the possibility of continuing in September 2022 depending on registration.
As the Instructor of the Education Assistant Program, you will be responsible for teaching the following courses – curriculum of which will be provided by the college:
EA 1000 Child Development
EA 1020 Professional Practice
EA 1026 Intro to Autism & Behaviour Training
EA 1030 Foundations of Inclusive Education
EA 1060 Assistive Technology
EA 1070 Practicum I
EA 2010 Accessing the Curriculum for Diverse Learners
EA 2050 Functional Behaviour Assessment & Positive Behaviour Supports
EA 2060 Alternative and Augmentative Communication
EA 2070 Practicum II
The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the other instructors in all aspects of the program planning and instruction. Course delivery will be a combination of in-person and on-line.
- Must be qualified to be a member of the Teachers Regulation Branch
- Professional experience that meets the curriculum and instructional needs of each course
- Understanding of how to effectively teach Adult Learners in a Career Orientated Post-Secondary Program
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a mentor for students on a practicum in an educational setting.
- Current knowledge of British Columbia schools and curriculum
- The ability to travel to practicum site locations
