About School District 69 (Qualicum)

School District 69 (Qualicum) is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4000 students. School District 69 (Qualicum) consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP).  False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. School District 69 (Qualicum) also embraces many community organizations  through various school programs. Assignment:        Teaching and Learning Support Teacher

Primary Focus – Supporting Early Learning Framework and Social Emotional Learning

 

The assignment may change due to the itinerant nature of the position, or to meet the needs of the school’s educational program, grade organization, and/or enrollment.

 

1.00 FTE CONTINUING

Commencing September 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide leadership and support to staff in the planning and implementation of district and school initiatives in the area of teaching and learning with an emphasis on social emotional learning;
  • Provide leadership in the area of current child development theory and practice;
  • Help teachers refine their present skills and develop new ones, particularly in the area of building a supportive classroom learning community while diversifying curriculum using a play-based approach to teaching and learning;
  • Model and enhance the teacher’s ability to reflect, problem-solve and pose relevant questions inquiring into their practice;
  • Familiar with effective strategies which will support student success in the area of social emotional learning self-regulation strategies and the Early Learning Framework;
  • Recognize and maintain confidentiality in working with teachers;
  • Understand the importance of play in all learning environments;
  • Facilitate professional learning around the Early Learning Framework;
  • An ongoing commitment to professional learning with an emphasis on the Early Learning Framework and social emotional learning.

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Possession of a Teaching Degree and knowledge of BC Curriculum;
  • A Master’s Degree or Diploma in teaching and learning and/or supporting diversity/or equivalency;
  • At least 5 years successful teaching experience;
  • Strength in communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Teacher leadership experience at the school level and District level such as involvement in school, District, Regional and/or Provincial initiatives, networks or committee work;
  • Experience teaching primary grades;
  • Experience with current approaches to differentiated instruction to support all learners;
  • Experience developing, organizing and facilitating professional learners’ programs in all aspects of teaching and learning;
  • Training or certification in Brain Science or Trauma Informed Practice;
  • Experience working with adult learners through a variety of approaches such as presentation, demonstration, team-teaching, coaching and networking.
