‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School (NAGK) is seeking to fill a challenging but rewarding generalist teaching position available for Grades K/1 (multi-grade classroom).
‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School is a certified and accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association. It is conveniently located 5km West of Terrace, B.C. on Hwy 16. Our school is situated at the confluence of the Skeena and Kalum Rivers in the beautiful community of Kitsumkalum. The local Tsimshian territory plays a vital role in our dynamic
educational environment to best serve the needs of the students and families who attend. NAGK education focuses on collaboration and co-planning to effectively differentiate in a project-based, experiential learning program. The Tsimshian language (Sm’algya̱ x) is foundational throughout our instructional program and is strongly supported by the community and it’s leadership.
• BC Teaching Certificate (TRB)
• Valid Class 4 BC Driver’s License preferred
• Ability to use data to drive instruction
• Experience with ReadWell and Saxon Math an asset
• Willingness to participate in community, cultural activities and travel
Teachers are responsible to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a
learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic
potential. Accountable to the School Principal, the teacher will facilitate learning by establishing
relationships with their students and by organizing learning resources and their classrooms’ learning
environment. The teacher will develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable
the optimum development of children, according to age, ability and aptitude. They also assess and
record progress and prepare their students for examinations.
