Position Description

Four (4) temporary full-time (1.0) District Teachers Teaching on Call teachers are required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.  This is a one (1) year contract position paid as per the collective agreement. The assignment will be dispatched from the Board Office.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Preference will be given to teachers with experience &/or education in 1 or more of the following areas: Special Ed, French, Music, Fine Arts, and Shop
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience teaching primary, intermediate/middle school/secondary students
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Wiling to work with team on common literacy in the classroom
  • Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals into classroom 
  • Collaboration and and working with a team
  • Ability to use performance standards in the area of social responsibility 
  • Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum
  • Computer related skills and willingness to incorporate ibooks into regular classroom instruction 
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques 
  • Experience teaching in a multiage group setting
  • Strong classroom management skills 
  • Training in teaching ELL and FASD students 
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional learning difficulties 
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the school improvement plan and with professional development 
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, and Blended/structured writing process 
  • Experience working with behavior students
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 

 

Compensation

  • $1400 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $2000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,477 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $47,821 to $89,708  
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
