Job Description & Requirements

Penelakut Tribe is seeking 1full-time, qualified Teachers for the Penelakut Tribe Elementary School to provide classroom instruction to Grade (1/2).  We are looking for an outstanding, dedicated indivual who is passionate about working with children. To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favourable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.


  • A Bachelor of Education Degree
  • Must be in good standing with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education
  • Cultural sensitivity with an awareness of Hul'qumi'num language and culture
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Candidates must have the ability to maintain a calm, professional manner in a fast paced environment which will often require multi-tasking
  • Must have excellent classroom management skills
  • Understand and apply current research-based strategies for classroom instruction (Words Their Way, Six Minute Solution, Read Well and Assessment for Learning)
  • Experience integrating technology (SMARTbard, I-pad) into teaching strategies
  • Adapt or modify curriculum to meet the students needs
  • Instructs and supports instruction of identified students, using various teaching methods
  • Prepares relevant course objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines and related resources to support classroom inclusive, pullout and traditional methods of instruction
  • Evaluate students progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress
  • Participates in staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  • Bachelor of Education or higher degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent
  • High level of attention to confidentiality
  • Culture sensitivity with experience in First Nations schools and communities
  • Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents and the community.
