Job Description & Requirements
Fort St. John is located in beautiful Northern British Columbia, 478 km northeast of Prince George and 1,237 km north of Vancouver.  Fort St. John is situated near the border with neighboring Alberta, 214 km west of Grande Prairie, Alberta.


A temporary full-time (1.0) primary teacher is required by School District No.60 (Peace River North).  The assignment will be at Upper Pine Jr/Secondary School effective February 27, 2017 to June 30, 2017.


Qualifications And Attributes:

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience teaching primary age students
  • Experience in teaching in a multi-aged group setting
  • Experience working with students of Aboriginal ancestry
  • Ability/experience in using performance standards
  • Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new provincial curriculum including the Core Competencies
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Ability to work as part of team to implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional learning difficultes
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on school improvement plan including professional development
  • Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students, staff and parents
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing, Performance based assessment, Balanced Literacy, blended/structure writing process, differentiated instruction, Guiding Reading, Power of 10 Literacy in Action, SMART learning process, Project Based Learning, Universal Design for learning and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Training or experience working with special needs students including behavioural challenged students
  • Computer related skills - a familiarity with the new BC student management system would be an asset (MyEDBC)
  • Training or experience working with ELL and FASD students
