Fort St John is located in beautiful Northern British Columbia, 478 km northeast of Prince George and 1,237 km north of Vancouver and 214 km west of Grande Prairie.

Description:

Two Temporary full-time (1.0) multi-grade elementary teachers (k/1/2 or 3/4/5) are required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North).  The assignment will be at Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School, 133 km northwest of Fort St John, and is effective September 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.  The school operates on a 4-day schedule, Monday to Thursday.  For information about Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School, visit www.uh.prn.bc.ca.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Willingness to work in a remote rural setting
  • Experience teaching in multiage group settings
  • Experience working with, and an understanding of aboriginal students
  • Strong leadership, organizational and classroom management skills
  • Willingness to work closely with the school team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional, behavioural or developmental difficulties
  • Willingness to develop individualized and group instruction, utilizing a variety of strategies and techniques, i.e. differentiated instruction, Project Based Learning (PBL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Willingness to communicate and develop trusting relations with students, staff and community
  • Experience with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or experience working with ELL students is an asset
  • Strong computer elated skills and an ability to integrate technology into the learning environment
  • Ability to work in a collaborative model with staff on the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (school improvement plan)
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning

 

Compensation:

  •   $700 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $1000 for teachers from other areas
  •   $2,410 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  •   Isolation allowance of $1420 paid over 10 months
  •   Salary per the collective agreement. Current salary grid is $46,716 to $87,635
  •   Benefits as per the collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance.  Benefits  are employer       paid based on FTE    
  •  Subsidized and affordable staff housing for rural positions
