Life Skills Resource Room UDL Enhancement Teacher
Term Specific to June 30, 2019
The Resource Room Enhancement Teacher uses a strength-based approach in working to strengthen student access to curriculum learning in the classroom environment as well as the Resource Room. This will include developing and sustaining inclusive learning environments and accessible and appropriate learning opportunities for students with moderate to profound intellectual disability and “Physically Dependent” (A), “Deafblind” (B), “Moderate to Profound Intellectual Disability” (C), “Physical Disability or Chronic Health” (D), “Visual Impairment” (E), “Deaf or Hard of Hearing” (F), “Autism” (G) - and significant social, emotional, mental health and behavioral challenges.
The Resource Room UDL Enhancement Teacher works along side the Resource Room Teacher and supports the work of Classroom Teachers, and Inclusion Team Teachers in the design and implementation of broadly inclusive classroom-based learning environments. Our goal is to enable student access to safe, inclusive and highly relevant curriculum learning opportunities for a broad range of students exhibiting diverse strengths and challenges.
This Teacher provides school-based consultative supports along with opportunities to engage in collaborative instructional planning and co-teaching in support of the design and implementation of inclusive learning opportunities.
Successful candidate will:
Diploma or Masters of Special Education (Inclusive Learning) preferred OR at least three courses in inclusive learning (special education) in the area of autism, intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities
Successful elementary level classroom teaching experience particularly in the area of Inquiry Based and Problem Based learning
Experience using a strength-based approach and a UDL framework to enable student access to curriculum learning in the classroom environment
Experience teaching students with Ministry of Education Special Needs designations
Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, Education Assistants and community service providers.
