Teaching assignment may include, but may not be limited to:

  • Secondary Mathematics and Science, and Electives     

     

    The successful candidate will:

  • have an exemplary work ethic, good communication skills;

  • have the proven ability to work as an effective team member to promote a variety of school initiatives aimed at continuous school improvement;

  • provide a welcoming, safe, experiential and stimulating learning environment appropriate to the learning needs of students;

  • have the skills and commitment to effectively support the District’s and school’s goals to improve the success of First Nations students;

  • be familiar and comfortable with adapting and modifying materials;

  • deal meaningfully with differentiated student learning styles and demonstrate an ability to address individual student needs;

  • incorporate into instruction hands-on, experiential active learning activities;

  • demonstrate knowledge and expertise in relation to the use of computer-assisted and on-line learning as both supplementary and primary course-ware resources;   

  • understand and apply the BC Performances Standards;

  • be able to incorporate a wide range of effective classroom management strategies that maintain the dignity of students;

  • provide evidence of the ability to deal effectively with intransigence;

  • demonstrate exceptional student motivational skills;

  • inspire students to expand the breadth and depth of their dreams;

  • possess an understanding of and an ability to assist in the development and execution of IEP’s and Behavioural Plans;  

  • demonstrate a deep knowledge of the new Provincial Math and Science curriculum;

  • have the ability to diagnose and assess Math abilities and deficit and develop remediation programs which will lead to students getting caught up to grade level;

  • demonstrate skills and commitment to building rapport with students;

  • supervise teaching and educational assistants who may be assigned;

  • have the ability and commitment to frequent and exemplary communication with parents and guardians;

  • be willing and flexible to teach other subjects, if required;

  • be physically capable to perform the duties of this position.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

      • BC Certified with the Teacher Qualification Branch with qualifications and experience at the secondary level with a major in Mathematics or Science;    

  • Successful experience in supporting individual student learning in a multi-grade classroom.
