Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) primary/intermediate teacher is required by School District No, 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  The assignment will be at Baldonnel Elementary School.

Baldonnel Elementary School is a rural K-6 school located 15 minutes from Fort St John and midway between Fort St John and the community of Taylor. The school has a student population of 140 students, 28% of whom are Indigenous students. Our school has a staffing complement of 18 very dedicated and collegial individuals. District Itinerant Staff provide a  range of services to our school. Our students also participate in the District elementary sports programs, District Band program, and the District Gifted and Enrichment program. Baldonnel also has an active Parent Advisory Council (PAC). Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience and/or training in teaching at the primary/intermediate level
  • Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the provincial IRP's 
  • Cognizant of the Core Competencies in the new BC Curriculum
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, and Blended/Structured writing process 
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of all students
  • Ability to work as part of a school-based team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, and/or emotional learning difficulties
  • Experience and/or training related to working with child special needs; including ELL, FASD,  ASD
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to use performance standards in the area of social responsibility 
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Training/experience in the use of manipulatives, Power of 10, and Math Makes Sense
  • Experience teaching in a multi-age setting
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with the school community to support the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning document (school plan)
  • Willingness to collaborate with other staff members with respect to curriculum implementation and professional development activities

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 

 

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
