We are currently searching for Education Assistants: Complex - Autism/Other, 28.9 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Locations are determined by the Student Services department and are subject to change.
*Positions end June 25, 2020 or upon return of incumbent.
*The current rate of pay is $25.43 plus 15.5% in lieu of benefits.
Grade 12 education supplemented by Human Services Worker program certificate; Autism training such as Provincial Outreach Program for Autism & Related Disorders (POPARD), with additional specialized training such as Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and valid Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification are required; recent experience supporting students with low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, behaviour challenges, and a variety of diverse learning and intellectual needs; ability to work effectively with staff and students; willingness to work in an inclusionary setting supporting differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curriculum; valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle available for use on the job is preferred; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties are performed under the supervision of the school/district Principal, Vice Principal and the Director of Student Services or designate; follows the guidance and leadership of the district support teacher and classroom teacher; provides support to an individual student in multiple settings as assigned by the Director of Student Services or designate and may be required to provide support to other students with special needs as requested by the site Principal or Vice Principal; provides support for classroom instruction, activities of daily living, and behavioural support for low incidence students in accordance with the individual education plan; carries out personal and health care routines as directed; provides information to school based team, itinerant staff or relevant agency personnel as requested by School/Program Leaders; facilitates inclusion of students with special needs into class and school activities; assists students in off-site program activities as required; participates in student observation, data collection and implementation of the individual education and behaviour plans; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
