1.0 FTE Continuing Teacher – Inclusion Specialist, Library, Language & Career Education

Kumsheen Secondary School is located in the community of Lytton, on the scenic TransCanada Highway and Fraser River corridors.  The school enrols approximately 70 students, with 95% being of Indigenous ancestry.   The school’s Action Plan for Learning dream is “that all students graduate from Kumsheen Secondary School with the skills to be self-motivated, resilient, and self-regulated learners.  We hope to develop a reputation of a school of excellence; empower our students to build a strong voice, community connections and sense of engagement in their own learning.  We plan to empower each learner to achieve learning to high expectations”.  


 REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant must have or be eligible for certification with the Ministry of Education, Teacher Regulation Branch, and possess:    


Knowledge of Ministry of Education’s redesigned curriculum and core competencies
Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching at the secondary level
A proven ability with assessment as and for learning strategies
Successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into curriculum, or
Familiarity with and understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to integrate it into the curriculum
Commitment to an inclusive learning environment
Demonstrated leadership skills
Experience co-planning and co-teaching with colleague(s)
The ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all learners
Successful experience integrating experiential and/or inquiry learning opportunities into the curriculum
A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills
A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting
A commitment to and demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum
The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the greater community
Current, valid driver’s license and willingness and ability to drive as required.
