Secondary Math and Science (Biology, Earth Science, AW Math,  Foundations of Math, and Pre-Calculus) Teacher

Start/End Dates:                        Start September 1, 2019 / End December 31, 2019 or earlier/later, depending on return of incumbent

NATURE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The successful candidate will be teaching adapted Science and Math courses at the Senior Level. Courses will be self-paced and will include Science 10, Earth Science 11, Biology 11, Apprenticeship and Workplace Math10/11, Foundations of Math 10/11, and Pre-Calculus 11. Classes will be composed of a broad range of learner profiles and ministry designations, which include complex behavioral, learning, social, emotional, and mental health challenges and curriculum will have to be adapted and individualized based on student needs. The successful applicant will also be required to actively case manage 12-14 students, create and maintain Individual Education Plans, liaise with community supports and families, and engage in the Special Needs designation process. This position is also responsible for a mental health literacy program called Self-Efficacy, targeting self-advocacy and mental wellness.

 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor of Education Degree (Secondary) specializing in Science and/or Math.

  • Successful experience teaching adapted Science and Math courses at the senior secondary level, in a self-paced, individualized environment for struggling students with complex learner profiles

  • Evidence to support previous experience in integrated case management, IEP creation and management, Ministry of Education Special Needs Designation process, and supporting youth with complex mental illnesses

  • Evidence of experience working collaboratively with Ministries of Health, and Children and Family Development

  • Intimate familiarity with all Graduation Programs, and evidence to support experience in academic advising for each

  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Training

  • Training in Collaborative Problem Solving

     

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of, or Course-work towards, a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology or Special Education

  • Inclusive/special education and/or counselling experience an asset.

  • Ability to positively influence instruction, curriculum, assessment, and social-emotional learning practices in a collaborative environment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the application of relevant computer technologies to teaching and learning.

  • Willingness to be involved in professional development, with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Possession of a BC Teaching Certificate

  • Membership in the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.

  • A member of the North Vancouver Teachers’ Association and the BC Teachers’ Federation.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

Earnings range from $46,091 - 89,018 per annum for full time work (pro-rated for part time), depending on the TQS category and experience level of the teacher.
