LOCATION: Tsay Keh Dene School
APPOINTMENT: 1.0 FTE , School Calendar Year, Immediately - June 2019. One Year Term Contract (renewable)
RATE OF PAY: Based on Tsay Keh Dene Pay Scale


Tsay Keh Dene School is looking for a motivated, adventurous Principal who would like to join our team for a rewarding experience in a remote northern First Nation community. Tsay Keh Dene is a community with average population of about 200 people. There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, fishing and camping. Teachers are provided with subsidized accommodation throughout the contract term.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Must be a member of BC College of Teachers in good standing
  • Training and experience working in a First Nations School
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership and team building
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • A commitment and demonstrated ability to nurture a school culture that is inclusive of and focused on the learning needs of diverse learners;
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations education issues and highly successful experience working with First Nations Communities;
  • Proven ability to successfully work and interact with children, youth, parents/guardians, staff and visitors in a sensitive, effective and professional manner
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Flexibility in the delivery of learning instruction
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BC Ministry prescribed learning outcomes and current resources
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff and community;
  • Innovative ideas and experience in developing and supporting a positive, safe and caring school climate;
  • Criminal Record Check clearance

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be adaptable, flexible and be willing to work closely in a collaborative teaching environment
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience in First Nations Schools
  • Must be willing to work and live in a remote northern community
