Job Description & Requirements
Fort St. John is located in beautiful Northern British Columbia, 478 km northeast of Prince George and 1,237 km north of Vancouver.   Fort St. John is situated near the border with neighbouring Alberta, 214 km west of Grande Prairie, Alberta.
A temporary full-time (1.0) Learning Assistance Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective immediately to June 30, 2017.  The assignment will be at Learning Services.


The ideal candidate will have:
  • Masters in Special Education or working towards 
  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to support the learning of students with a wide variety of needs
  • Knowledge of effective research-based teaching strategies and formative assessment techniques
  • ability/experience to carry out a variety of assessment, including classroom observation, administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments, curriculum-based assessments, and diagnostic teaching methods
  • ability to implement extensive Individual Education Programs (IEP's) (detailing adaptations and modifications) in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students and district resource personnel
  • ability/experience to support students designated with Chronic Health
  • ability to support teachers within their classrooms to create inclusive learning environments
  • wide range of teaching and management strategies
  • knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum at the elementary level
  • knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs
  • ability/expertise to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting
  • flexible schedule to chair meetings outside of regular school hours
  • excellent interpersonal, communication, collaborative and organizational skills
  • advocacy for and empathy with students with special needs
  • ability to work with students experiencing learning and/or behavioural difficulties
  • ability/expertise to collaborate with classroom teachers and team-teach when warranted to support the learning of special needs students
  • commitment to pursue professional development in inclusive education
  • willingness to work collaboratively with the inclusive education departments/teams and school administration
  • experience/knowledge of PBIS supports
  • valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
