Position Description

A temporary part time (0.6) learning assistance teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.  The assignment will be at Ecole Central Elementary School.

 Ecole Central Elementary School of the Arts is a K-6, Fine Arts French Immersion school located in the heart of downtown Fort St. John, in the beautiful Peace River Valley. We offer an early French immersion program, which begins in kindergarten. Fourteen percent of our students are of First Nations ancestry. Our school has a staffing compliment of 15 teachers and 8 support workers as well a principal, and .5 vice principal, reading recovery teacher and a .5 librarian. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services. École Central Elementary School is a Fine Arts school and staff appointments will reflect the specific classroom needs and the Fine Arts Programme needs. See for more information.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience and success in Learning Assistance 
  • Familiarity with interpretation and administration of norm referenced and criterion referenced assessments 
  • Ability to write, implement and evaluate IEP's at the elementary school level 
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology to support students needs (Success Maker Computerized Program, Kurzwiel computer program)
  • Awareness of individual learning styles and ability to teach specific learning and study strategies to suit individual styles 
  • Planning for moderate behavior students 
  • Ability to adapt curriculum/familiarity with adapted reading and writing resources and materials 
  • Ability and desire to consistently monitor academic progress while teaching students effective study and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other staff members (i.e. team teaching)
  • Strong classroom management skills 
  • A working knowledge of appropriate computer technology 
  • A commitment to work with staff on the school improvement plan

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 



  • $1400 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $2000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - 91,278
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
