About Chalo Independent School Society


Chalo School is situated 8 kilometers from the town of Fort Nelson, on the Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve. We serve a student population of approximately 140 students from K4 to grade twelve and we have an established adult basic education (ABE) program. Chalo School is an independent school and our school follows the prescribed curriculum of the BC Ministry of Education. Our beautiful and well-appointed school offers ‘quality of place’ through exceptionally well maintained physical infrastructure, small class sizes (18 pupils max.), and a team of sixteen teaching professionals and seven educational assistants. Chalo Independent School Society invites applications for a combined 1.0 FTE Grade 5/6 Teacher for the 2019/2020 year.


As a key member of the school’s instructional team, the grade 6/7 teacher is primarily responsible for providing instructional services and support to students. The teacher is the subject matter expert, ensuring effective and research-based planning, instructional and assessment practices.

  3. Familiarity with BC’s newly redesigned curriculum.
  4. A strong team orientation.
  5. Excellent planning and organization skills.
  6. A desire to grow professionally.
  7. A clear Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector.


All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch.





  1. Competitive annual salary rate matched with School District 81 salary scale;

  4. Professional Development funds; $1400.00 annually (pro-rated in year one);
  5. Relocation Reimbursement; $700.00 annually, for up to 3 years;

  7. Special Leave: 15 medical days (5 days may be used as additional discretionary days with approval), 2 discretionary days, and 3 professional development days (pro-rated in year one).
