Chief Atahm School is looking forward to expanding our program to include grade 10.  In September 2019, we will be moving into a new High School and Language Centre building.

Chief Atahm School is seeking a full time High School Teacher. We are seeking a dynamic, creative individual with experience in planning, teaching and evaluating Grade 10 Science and English courses. Other subjects , including electives may be offered.  The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the new BC curriculum, inquire method and graduation requirements. The teacher will be part of a collaborative team, that plans and implements educational program based on our principles.

Adams Lake Indian Band is home to the Chief Atahm School, founded in 1991. The school is located in south central British Columbia, near the town of Chase and Kamloops.  

Chief Atahm School continues to be a parent-operated school where staff, parents and elders work together to offer the best program possible that adheres to our school’s vision, philosophy and principles. The school has the capacity to develop Secwepemc language and land based learning resources.

“The Chief Atahm School is grounded in the belief that knowledge of the language, traditional practices and beliefs of the Secwepemc will help develop a strong and healthy community. Students will be prepared for today’s world and will help to protect the earth for future generations.” This belief is supported by, integrating traditional practices across all grades, throughout the school year.  According to the School Vision, all students are taught about balance in the natural world as they practice the principles of sustainability.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator, with outstanding interpersonal skills and a history of promoting parent and community involvement. The High School  Teacher will be expected to taking an active  role  in school sponsored extra-curricular   activities.

Qualification and experience

Bachelor of Education degree

Must be in good standing with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education

Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Records Check

Understanding of Secwepemc language, values, history and culture is an asset
