Job Description & Requirements
 

Fort St John is located in beautiful Northern British Columbia, 478 km northeast of Prince George and 1,237 km north of Vancouver.  Fort St John is situated near neighboring Alberta, 214 km west of Grande Prairie, Alberta.

A temporary full-time (1.0) Literacy/Numeracy Support teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North). The assignment will be at Prespatou Elementary/Secondary School effective immediately to June 30, 2017.

Qualifications and Attributes

The ideal candidate will have:

  • valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach Language Arts at the elementary/secondary level and Numeracy at the elementary level
  • wide range of teaching and management strategies
  • knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum at the elementary/secondary level
  • ability/experience to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting
  • excellent interpersonal, communications, collaborative and organizational skills
  • advocacy and empathy for all students
  • ability/expertise to collaborate with classroom teachers and team-teach when warranted to support the learning of all students
  • commitment to pursue professional development
  • willingness to work collaboratively with the special education department and school administration
  • experience/knowledge of PBIS supports
  • experience/knowledge of AFL practices
  • commitment and a willingness to work with colleagues on staff development activities linked to school goals for enhancing students learning
