CARPENTER

We are currently seeking a full-time Carpenter to provide carpentry services at a Journeyman level relating to the maintenance, alteration and construction of existing District facilities.  As an employer, we provide comprehensive growth, learning and engagement opportunities to the 2,300 committed professionals across the district.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Frames and constructs interior and exterior structures using a variety of natural and manmade building materials for the installation and maintenance of new construction and renovation projects on existing District Facilities. 

  • Performs structural and non-structural framing work such as walls, window frames, door frames and ceilings.

  • Applies and repairs a variety of cladding and finishing such as floor tiles, carpets, ceiling tiles, T-bar ceilings, laminates, drywall and plywood.

  • Builds, repairs and installs a variety of millwork such as cabinets, counters, shelving units and other finishing work for computer stations, offices and classrooms.

  • Reads and interprets plans, drawings and specifications for construction, renovation and repair projects.  Develops manual plans, sketches and drawings for the purpose of job layouts and estimating time and materials required.

  • May design, build, repair or modify equipment and/or furnishings to accommodate students with special needs.

  • Provide technical information and advice related to the carpentry trade as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent plus a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Apprenticeship in Carpentry or equivalent apprenticeship training and a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry (T.Q.).

  • Two (2) years’ experience at a journeyman level in commercial and institutional carpentry, including renovation, repair and finishing work.

  • Thorough knowledge of current techniques, methods, procedures, regulations, standards and materials applicable to the carpentry trade.

  • Competency in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade.

  • Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling and moving heavy materials, equipment and supplies.

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License

  • Good interpersonal skills
