ABORIGINAL SUPPORT WORKER
Full Time, School Term, 35 hours a week (while school is in session)
Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of Aboriginal Support Worker – Aboriginal Education. As the third largest school district in the province we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.
Working under the direction of the administrator/designate, the support worker
implements and promotes individualized and/or group programs in First Nations studies under the direction of the teacher.
Required knowledge and Skills:
Grade 12 and completion of a one-year post secondary education program in First nations culture,
A thorough knowledge of First Nations cultures, traditions and values demonstrated through aboriginal ancestry,
and/or two (2) years of personal involvement and experience with aboriginal culture and traditions.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
“The successful applicant will be a person of Aboriginal ancestry in accordance with an approved special program under Section 42(3) of the British Columbia Human Rights Code.”
This is a unionized position which offers $28.78/hour (35 hours/week while school is in session), including an attractive benefit package which includes, Extended Health, Dental, MSP and Pension Plan (MPP).
