Position Description

A temporary full-time (1.0) primary teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2018 to January 4, 2019 or the return of the incumbent but not beyond June 30, 2019.  The assignment will be at Robert Ogilvie Elementary School.

Robert Ogilvie School is a vibrant, caring school community on the eastern edge of the City of Fort St John. The school has a population of 340 students of which 25 percent are of aboriginal ancestry. We are funded as an inner city school through Community LINK funding from the Ministry of Education, which allows us to provide additional support for students. We have 14 divisions of classes from grades K – 6, a .5 librarian, .8 learning assistant, 1 Behaviour Support position, a .9 counsellor,  1.5 administration and 15 Education Assistants (EAs).  See www.ogilvie.prn.bc.ca for more information.

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Successful kindergarten and early primary classroom teaching experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with:  training and experience in awareness, play based learning, guided reading programs, use of manipulative's, Power of 10, and Math Makes Sense
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school based team and a commitment to inclusive education
  • Knowledge of programs and strategies suitable for a variety of students that supports classroom instruction
  • Experience with a variety of assessments including classroom observations, running records, criteria based assessment and performance-based assessments
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization and collaborative problem solving skills
  • Ability to help children use adaptive technology to support learning
  • Commitment to working with colleagues on staff development activities linked to the School Improvement Plan
  • Computer literate and able to use a variety of applications for classroom instruction and required paperwork
  • Working knowledge of the new curriculum documents
  • Working knowledge of Zones of Regulation and Mindfulness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience using PBIS model both in the classroom and in the school
  • Willing to be part of a collaborative primary learning team in the area of literacy and numeracy
  • Engaging and collaboratively using parents as partners in the classroom setting

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 

 

Compensation

  • $700 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $1000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,477 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $47,821 to $89,708
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
