Position Description

A temporary part-time (0.428) Reading Recovery Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.  The assignment will be at Robert Ogilvie Elementary School.

Robert Ogilvie School is a vibrant, caring school community on the eastern edge of the City of Fort St John. The school has a population of 340 students of which 25 percent are of aboriginal ancestry. We are funded as an inner city school through Community LINK funding from the Ministry of Education, which allows us to provide additional support for students. We have 14 divisions of classes from grades K – 6, a .5 librarian, .8 learning assistant, 1 Behaviour Support position, a .9 counsellor,  1.5 administration and 15 Education Assistants (EAs).  See www.ogilvie.prn.bc.ca for more information.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Desire and passion to work with our school team
  • Successful experience and training in reading recovery
  • The ability to build strong, positive relationships with students
  • Training and experience in phonemic awareness, guided reading programs and Power of 10
  • Training for and experience teaching primary age students
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience in effective team teaching in collaborative teaching environments
  • Experience with and commitment to using individualized and group instruction with a variety of effective strategies, techniques, and resources
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all children to learn
  • Experience working with children with special needs
  • Training and experience teaching ELL, ASD, and FASD students
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties
  • Ability to use performance standards in all areas
  • Awareness of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment
  • Experience with teaching self-regulation strategies in the classroom
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS)
  • Excellent technology skills
  • Ability and willingness to incorporate a variety of technology into regular classroom instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the Foundation for Enhancing Student Learning and with professional and staff development
  • Willingness to commit to ongoing professional development

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 

 

Compensation

  • $1400 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $2000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,477 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $44,821 to $89,708  
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
