Temporary Full-Time Outdoor Education Coordinator - Maternity Leave

General Description

Cameron Lake Outdoor Education and Environmental Studies Centre is located in a natural Boreal forest setting on the shore of Cameron Lake, 25km South of Hudson’s Hope on Highway 29. The Outdoor Education Coordinator assignment will be at Cameron Lake. The Outdoor Education Coordinator will have primary responsibility of the outdoor education program for preschool through high school students as well as be a first point of contact for outside user groups. This position includes a mix of responsibilities including assisting in the facilitation of group activities and basic instructional skills, as well as risk management, record keeping, equipment and grounds maintenance. Salary: Based on Certification/Experience

Reporting: This position reports to the Principal of Special Projects and to the District’s Senior Administration (Superintendent, Secretary Treasurer, Plant Superintendent).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure standard operating procedures and routines for health and safety protocols are followed

  • Monitor bookings

  • Advise and assist staff/user leaders and chaperones, ensuring awareness of the site’s opportunities and options

  • Assist with on-site class activities

  • Report work-orders for all camp maintenance issues to appropriate supervisors

  • Organize and oversee the purchase of basic daily camp supplies

  • Oversee use and management of an extensive inventory of outdoor education equipment

  • Providing emergency contact information for all user groups and is  available for emergency call outs when groups are on site.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience

  • Prefered Grade 12, or equivalency

  • Experience working with children preschool to grade 12

  • Experience and/or education with risk management programs

  • Experience and/or training in the field of experiential and/or outdoor education

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people, including students, parents, faculty and staff in a fast-paced school environment

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask and be flexible with priorities

  • Level 1 First Aid and CPR certifications

  • A Criminal Records Search must be completed through the Administration Office and results returned to employees before starting any position in the district
