Position Description

A temporary full-time (1.0) Primary teacher is required by School District No 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.  The assignment will be at Wonowon Elementary School.

Wonowon Elementary Junior School is a k - 6 school located at mile 101 of the historic Alaska Highway, 84km north of Fort St John.  Wonowon Elementary Junior School has a student population of 55, many whom are of Russian-German background.  Many of our students are English Language Learners.  Wonowon Elementary Junior School receives administrative assistance from SD60's Rural Principal and employs three teachers (one whom acts as head teacher) and three Educational Assistants.  Wonowon Elementary Junior School also receives a variety of support from Learning Services, Technology Services and the district's Rural Library program.  The school has three classrooms, a gym, kitchen, and an large outdoor play area that includes a skating rink.  Teacher housing is available at a reasonable cost.  See for more information.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Certification and experience at the primary level
  • Experience in teaching in a multi-aged classroom
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to work in a rural setting
  • Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals into classroom
  • Collaboration and working with a team
  • Has experience or can work with English as a Second Language students (Russian/German)
  • Familiar with or willing to learn Jolly Phonics Program
  • Experience with implementation and integration of technology into the classroom; smart board and ipads
  • Advantage to have first aid
  • Demonstrated ability with UDL/differentiated instructional practices
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

  • Three (3) references
  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 




  • $700 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $1000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,477 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $47,821 to 89,708
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
  • Isolation allowance of $233.60 paid over 10 months
