Vancouver has a thriving French Immersion program which includes fourteen elementary schools, four additional elementary schools offering Intensive French or Late French Immersion at the Grade 6/7 level, and three high schools. There is a collaborative and engaged community of French Immersion teachers and principals/vice-principals. We offer ongoing professional development and mentors to support our teachers.
We are looking for teachers who have a strong work ethic, passionate about teaching the French language, knowledgeable about the research on second language acquisition, and are able to plan and implement creative and engaging lessons.

Start Date: Immediately or September 2019
This position is full-time guaranteed work with benefits. Teachers are typically placed in long term temporary placements covering medical or maternity leaves. Occasionally, they are placed in a continuing contract and/or could be required to work day to day in different schools. The position is different than our On-Call French Immersion posting as teachers are required to work every day. Once hired, teachers can apply to any internal continuing French Immersion postings during the year.
We try to place our French Immersion teachers in positions that they have experience in; however, most of our French Immersion positions are at the elementary level and teachers will likely be placed in K-7 classes.
- Completion of a Bachelor of Education
- Completion of an extended teaching practicum in French Immersion and/or successful teaching experience in French Immersion is required
- Native-like fluency in oral and written French is required
- Teaching experience and a recent teaching evaluation is an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Membership in or eligible to become a member in the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB)
- Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service

- Final Practicum Reports and/or teaching evaluations within the past eight years from your current administrator
- Academic Transcripts
- Contact information for three Professional References: Faculty and School Advisors, and/or teaching contract supervisors (current Principals, Vice-Principals)
- Proof of French fluency by the results of either the FLA (French Language Appraisal) or the DELF or French Immersion practicum
